I’m Ulrik, the founder of Local Run Guide.
Whenever I travel, I love heading out for a run. It’s a great way to explore—but finding a good route isn’t always easy. I’ve managed to get lost in Istanbul, New York and Shanghai along the way!
Even when I found my way, I’d pass interesting buildings and landmarks without knowing their stories. Then, on one trip, I joined a guided running tour. Suddenly, everything came together: the run, the sights and a local who could bring the city to life.
That experience inspired me to create Local Run Guide. Our first tours launched in Madrid in 2019, followed by Barcelona in 2022.
Meet the founder
From Sweden
to Madrid
I was born and raised in Sweden, then moved to London in 1999 to finish my studies and begin my working life. My love of travel and discovering different cultures eventually brought me to Madrid, which has been home since 2017.
Beyond running, I enjoy good food, wine, craft beer, fly fishing and spending time with my family. Exploring somewhere new—and meeting the people who make it special—remains one of my favourite things to do.
Today, I’m joined by a wonderful team of guides in Madrid and Barcelona. Together, we share the cities we love through running, stories and conversation.
